Captioning Videos on YouTube

This post was updated on 9/10/14 to reflect YouTube's recent interface changes.

If you're making videos, don't forget to caption them. Here are directions on how caption
your videos after uploading them to your YouTube account.
  1. Log-in to your YouTube account.
  2. Click your Profile Picture on the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  3. Click Creator Studio.
  4. Click on Video Manager in the Creator Studio box on the left side of the screen.
  5. Next to your intro video, click the Down Arrow next to the word Edit.
  6. Select Subtitles and CC
  7. Select video language English
  8. Click Add subtitles or CC.
  9. Click English (or whichever language you selected).
  10. Click Transcribe and set timings.
  11. You will get a box to the right to type as you listen to your video. Your video will pause whenever you type.
  12. When you are done, click Set timings.
  13. After YouTube sets the timing, you will then need to click Publish.
And for those of you shooting your videos on iPhones or iPads, I recommend downloading the Youtube Capture App. This makes it super easy to upload your videos to your HCC YouTube Account.
