Don't put your phones away!

Fifty-eight percent of all adults now have smartphones. The percentages are substantially higher for 18-49 year olds (Pew Research Center). How do they/we use our smart devices? We text, phone and email. We take pictures and video and post them to the internet. We look up information as we need it. Communication, documentation, and research are all skills needed in a class environment. With the limited lab space at HCC, why have them put away the computers in their hands? Instead, repurpose them as educational devices. How to avoid misuse? Consider enlisting your students to help craft guidelines for appropriate smartphone use.

Smartphones are great to use when students are researching in groups or for finding images to inspire them or illustrate their ideas.

Apps that support HCC's online systems: Google Drive (collaborate on shared documents in real-time), Moodle (available for Moodle 2x)
